About Legal Guide

“Legal Guide” is an Armenian non-governmental organization, which was established in 2004. The organization was established as a result of cooperation amongst the team after the Project on Training of Trainers (hereinafter referred to as “TOT”) component of the project “Promoting compliance of ECHR” in Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan” initiated and implemented by the British East-West Centre (hereinafter referred to as “BEWC’) from 2002 to 2004. Legal Guide aims to promote the respect for and the protection of human rights in Armenia and the rights of Armenians elsewhere, through law and litigation before the European Court of Human Rights.

The main goals of the “Legal Guide” are:

  • To facilitate promotion of the rule of law and a democratic society;

  • To raise knowledge and information of legal professionals on application of international and regional human rights protection mechanisms;

  • To facilitate effective protection of human rights and freedoms both at national and international levels;

  • To facilitate the education, training and exercise of the norms of comparative law in the Republic of Armenia;

  • To facilitate the harmonization of the legislation and the sub-legislative acts to the internationally accepted norms and standards.

These the best tools for achieving change in the domestic legislative and administrative systems.

Legal Guide implements its aims by conducting relevant programs and initiatives (click here for more information about the activities of Legal Guide), the field of the European and domestic human rights protection. The projects implemented by Legal Guide can be divided into two areas: Educational resources on European and Domestic Human Rights protection mechanisms (click here for more information about the educational resources and programs of Legal Guide) and litigation before the European Court of Human Rights (click here for more information about the litigation activities of Legal Guide).
